Explain the process of erucamide production
Erucamide Production
Erucamide is the main derivative of Erucic acid. Erucic acid is having carbon chain mainly C-22:1. it is obtained from mustard oil. Erucamide is produced from erucic acid by standard amination procedures.
Pure erucic acid (above 90%) is reacted with ammonia at elevated temperature and pressure.
Temperature used is and 200oC and 125 to 150 psi pressure.
Refined Mustard oil contains carbon atoms above 18 is 18, 22, 24 oil is nothing but triglyceride.
So oil { triglyceride} reacts with water to give fatty acid and glycerol.
So here mustard oil will be hydrolysed using splitting process to get fatty acid and glycerol.
