Assume that a city of 50000 people uses on the average 20 million m^3 of natural gas per year.what fraction of this demand could be met by digesting the refuse from this community?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Given that: City people = 50,000 Usage of natural gas per year = 20 million m3 Assume: 4.5 lbs/person/day refuse generation 50% of refuse is bio-degradable * Community could generation on average 50,000 x 4.5 lbs / person / day / 2204.6 lbs / tonne x 365 days / year * Using relationship bench scale data indicate 900 tonnes / day of organic waste could produce 1600 m3 / day of methane. Methane production from digestion could produce = 18620 tonnes / yr x (16000 m3/900 tonnes organic watse)
