Baffles are used to increas fluid velocity by diverting flow across the tube bundle to obtain higher heat transfer co-efficinet.

- Baffles support the tubes thus reducing chance of damage due to vibration.

- There are number of different baffle types, which support tube and promote flow across tubes.

Single segmental ( Most common )

Double segmental (used to obtain lower shell velocity and promote flow across the tubes)

Baffles are held in positioned by means of baffle spacers.

- closer baffles spacing givers greater transfer co-efficient by inducing higher turbulance.
