Q14 a. What is the method of calculating the volume and mass of oil stored in a storage tank?

b. What is the general method of storing gas?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

a. hydrostatic pressure gauges are most common devices to calculate mass inside the oil tank as it measures hydrostatic prussure at any level inside the tank. pressure at any level and multiplied by area of the storage tank equal to force apllied on that surface which equal to weight of oil above that surface. Pressure x Area = Weight of oil above that surface one more importantant method may be level indicator, laser level indicator gives measurement of emplty level in the tank that calculates voulme in side the tank.

b. gas are generally stored under pressured hence preferred to store gases undergroud or in a pressure cylinder. gas can also stored in liquified form under high pressure cylinder.
