The laws of thermodynamics plays a vital role in determining the feasibility of a reaction. According to the first law of thermodynamics, we cannot extract heat energy from the body at lower temperature to the surrounding at relatively higher temperature.The first law however got limitation that it cannot predict the direction of reaction to occur.
The second law give the idea of entropy. The reaction procceds in the direction of increasing entropy.No spontaneous process is possible for which the entropy decrease. The second law got its limitations of brownaian ratchets. The gibbs free energy also predicts the feasibility of a reaction The gibbs free energy should be negative for a reaction to proceed. At equilibrium the change in gibbs free energy is zero.
