In tangential flow filtration, why is operating at the “knee” position most beneficial for a retained product?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

If the slope of flux vs Trans membrane pressure(TMP) becomes less than or equal to 50% of the previous slope then this point is called the knee of the curve..

In tangential flow filtration, it is advised to operate at the “knee” position to be most beneficial for a retained product because-> it is the point where the maximum flux is achieved without putting too much pressure.

->It is the point of safe operation where we can get our product at more effective way.

->It is the region of stable flux and if the flux unstable then it will become necessary to check other membrane operations.
