Answer #1

Solubility parameters is mainly determined from intrinsic viscosity measurement. relation of intrinsic viscosity to polymer molecular weight and the chain-expansion factor is given by scientist flory. The chain-expansion factor can, which in turn, is mainly related to the polymer-solvent interaction parameter by correlating and using the Rory-Hug-gins theory.

A variety of models can be used to treat the interaction parameter to solubility parameters 187.102.1031: these equations have thewhich have the general form

You are given a sample of polymer; it is not obvious if it is cross-linked, filled or not filled. Explain how you would determine the Tg (glass transition temperature).Regarding the polymer in question, if your manager asks you to use it for a product that would typically be used above Tg and in a humid environment. What technical concerns do you need to explain to your manager so that they fully understand any possible risks?
