A. Predict the products and balance the equation for the following neutralization reaction:
NaOH (aq) + H2SO4 (aq) ?
B.How many grams of H2SO4 are required to neutralize (react with) 3.45 grams of NaOH?
C.How many grams of the salt product are produced?

Part a
The balanced reaction
H2SO4 (aq ) + 4 NaOH (aq) ? 3 H2O (l) + 2 Na2SO4 (aq)
Part b
Moles of NaOH = mass/molecular weight
= 3.45g / 40g/mol
= 0.08625 mol
4 mol NaOH reacts with = 1 mol H2SO4
0.08625 mol NaOH reacts with = 0.08625/4 = 0.02156 mol H2SO4
Mass of H2SO4 = moles x molecular weight
= 0.02156 mol x 98 g/mol
= 2.11 g
Part c
Moles of Na2SO4 produced
= 2 mol Na2SO4 x 0.08625 mol NaOH / 4 mol NaOH
= 0.043125 mol
Mass of Na2SO4 = moles x molecular weight
= 0.043125 mol x 142.04 g/mol
= 6.13 g
