Some Chemical compounds will exhibit colour by absorbing some amount of light. The absorbing light wavelength is different for different compounds. The amount of absorbing light depends on the concentration of the compound in given solution. Spectrophotometer is used to find the unknown concentration of compound by drawing graph between known concentration and it's absorbence. For finding concentration of the given sample the light sent should be absorbed by the compound then only its possible to measure its absorbence as the compound absorb some amount of passed light. For that reason monochromatic light is used in spectrophotometer.
