A) Does a motor vehicle body rust quicker in a heated garage compared with being left outside in a carport? Give reasons for your answer:
B) Motor vehicle bodies are known to corrode much more rapidly in cold locations where granules of ‘salt’ (calcium chloride is used, not sodium chloride) are spread on roads to lower the freezing point to prevent icing. What is the main reason for this increased level of corrosion?
A) corrosion will be faster in heated environment. The corrosion reaction is electrochemical in nature. this anodic and cathodic reaction inceases or become faster with increase in temperature thats why rusting become faster
B) when CaCl2 is used its give more ions ( 2+ for calcium and 2- for chlorine) or more electron will be generated than sodium chloride. because of ions present in salt ,the electrochemical reaction of corrosion increases , so the rate of rusting will increase.
