Q// pure CO2 is absorbed by water in a wetted wall column at one atmosphere and 25 c.using very high flow of water such that the concentration of CO2 in the bulk of liquid was very small and could be neglected when compared with concentration at the interface. during one hour of steady-state operation, .0.23 mol CO2 are absorbed. Assume an interface area 314 cm2.

a-find the mass transfer coefficient.

b- how much O2 will be absorbed under the same conditions.

Q// A manometer containing oil with a specific gravity (SG) of 0.92 is connected across an orifice plate in horizontal pipeline carrying seawater (SG=1.1).

if the manometer reading 16.8 cm, what is the pressure drop across the orifice in atm? what is in meters of water?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Solution to the ques no. 2:-

Given that, S.G of manometric oil is 0.92

S.G of liquid in pipeline is 1.1

therefore, density of manometric oil will be, m=0.92103 kg/m3

density of liquid in pipeline will be, =1.1103 kg/m3

we know that in case of horizontal pipeline having an orifice ,the head difference across the orifice will be-

, when

where, x=manometer reading=16.810-2m (given)

putting all values the equation will be, H=16.810-2{1-(0.92/1.1)}=0.0274m

now, for the pressure drop we have,

P=gH

=1.11039.80.0274

=295.372 Pa.
