Which parameters are effective in the determination of friction factor, f and drag
coefficient, CD depending on flow regime?
SOLUTION.
The friction factor and drag coefficient are depends on flow type .
There are basically two types of Flow
Laminar and turbulent flow .
1)
Basically friction factor is Fuction of Nre, Raynolds number which is Given as D*V*rho/u .
For laminar flow it is given as f = 64/Nre
Fir turbulent flow it is given as f = 0.079/Nre ^1/4
Thus friction factor in Fuction of dimensionless number i.e Nre Raynolds number.
The parameters that effective in determination of f are pipe diameter(if fluid flows in pipe) , equivalent length , l Of fluid system . Velocity of flow, density of fluid and viscosity of fluid.
2) Dreag COEFFICIENT, Cd
It is important parameter in heat transfer and mass transfer as it relates mass/heat transfer coefficient to power required to pump or fan.
Drag coefficient used to calculate losses in fluid energy and the stress exerted by fluid on the pipe, plate ,etc.
It is given as Cd = Fd/(1/2 *A*rho*V²/2)
Fd is drag force exerted by fluid on the pipe ,A is projected area .
The factor that effective in determination of drag coefficient are as follows :
1) Nre , Raynolds number
2) density of Fluid.
3) velocity of fluid.
4) pipe diameter/equivalent length .
5) drag force.etc.
6 ) Projected area of Drag force exerted by fluid.
