material Science

1.what is the critical feature o a mer(molecule)which determines if a polymer becomes a linear polymer as opposed to a networked polymer. explain your answer

Homework Answers

Answer #1

- property of monomer

Different type of monomer have different tendecy to form polymerization structure.

Ex. PVC have linear structure and HDPE have networked polymer structure.

which depend on monomer property.

-pressure condition while reaction

it also affect the structure of polymer product.

EX. for same monomer, (ethelyne)

when high pressure condition is used, linear polymer will be product.

when low pressure condition is used, networked polymer will be product.

-Use of initiator and cross linked agent.

some material is used to cross link 2 branch of polymer.

Ex. valcanized rubber where sulfer is used as cross linked agent.
