The recquired packed tower height can be reduce by lowering the
value of HTU & NTU .
where ,
- Height of tarnsfer unit (HTU) tells us the
relative ease with which a given packing can accomplish the
separation. for a good packing (i.e. a packing which provides high
interfacial area) the value of HTU is lesser and the height
recquired for a specified degree of separation is smaller.
HTU is indirectly
proportional to the quality of packing.
- Number of transfer units (NTU) indicates the
difficulty of separation . the greater the extent of separation
desired the larger will be the Number of transfer units .
NTU is indirectly
proportional to the ease of separation.
The product of HTU and NTU gives us the packed height.
