These can be studied with the relative relationship with temperature and density of water. The warm water float than the colder water which is higher in densities. This layer is called epilimnion, the cold layer below it called hypolimnion. This two-layer are separated by a layer which is in a change in temperature. During the summer surface layer called epilimnion will reach maximum depth and stratification will be maintained. This warm water sunlight and nutrient from the lake bottom is bought up. This provides a good apt environment to algae growth within the epilimnion.Stratification in summer functions as a constraint to complete lake blending The answer is There are likely more nutrients in the surface water in August (end of summer) than in May (beginning of summer)
