These plain are considered as a huge national wildlife sanctuary. It is well protected by the community people living there itself than the government. Stricter environmental laws are imposed in the sanctuary which helps keep the urbanization, industrialization and illegal activity away.

Following are true about human activity

a) Ecotourism is the biggest Industry in Serengeti, Tanzania.

b) Migratory herding: Per year 1.5 million wildebeests migrate through Serengeti plains. Also, around 2.5 lac zebras migrate through the plains.

c) Community-based local farming was practiced but now some farms have commercialized specifically in Serengeti plains of Kenya. Afro-ecological conditions favor commercial farming.
