A stream of hot dry nitrogen flows through a solvent recovery unit that contains liquid benzene. A substantial portion of the benzene vaporizes in the unit and is carried off by the nitrogen. The combined gases leave the unit at 150°C and 1.2 bar and enter a condenser in which a portion of the benzene is condensed. The remaining gas leaves the condenser at 20°C and 30 bar. The partial pressure of benzene in the feed to the condenser is 0.15 bar, and in that the effluent gas from the condenser is 0.46 bar. Suppose the volumetric flow rate of the gas leaving the condenser is 30 m3/hour, calculate the rate of benzene condensed (kg/hour) in the condenser and the rate of heat transfer needed in kJ/hr.
