A gas has a dry-basis composition of 9 mol% CO, 10mol% CO2, 1mol% O2, and 80mol% N2. The gas temperature and pressure are 600°C and 1 atm and it has a dew point temperature of 50°C (due tothe presence of water). The gas must be cooled to 400°C. This is accomplished by spraying liquid water at 20°C into the gas.The liquid water evaporates and leaves the cooler with the gas as water vapour. Calculate the required volumetric flow rate of cooling water (in L/h) for a feed of 1000 mol dry gas/h.

A gas stream leaves a chemical plant at 85oC and 760 mmHg comprising 30 mole% acetone and the balance is nitrogen. As an attempt to recover the acetone as a liquid, the gas stream is then cooled at constant pressure in a condenser. The uncondensed acetone and nitrogen are released to the atmosphere. There are two different cooling fluids available: one at 25oC and one at – 10oC. a) Draw and label a flow diagram of the process b) Determine...

Using Raoult's law for water and Henry's law for nitrogen, calculate the pressure and gas-phase composition (mole fractions) in a system containing a liquid that is 1.200 mole% N2 and 98.80 mole% water in equilibrium with nitrogen gas and water vapor at 50.0°C. The Henry's law constant for nitrogen in water is recommended by NIST to be well represented by kH = 0.000625 exp[1300 (1/T – 1/298.15)] mol N2 / (kg H2O bar), where T is measured in Kelvin a)...
