A humid air stream flows into a condenser that also compresses the air stream. The inlet air is a 80°C and 1 atm absolute pressure, and contains 9 mol% water. The temperature is decreased to 14.5°C and the total pressure is increased to 2.8 atm absolute, resulting in condensation and removal of some of the water as liquid. The air leaving the condenser/compressor is then heated at constant pressure to 100°C. Calculate (a) the fraction of the incoming water that is condensed from the humid air; and (b) the relative humidity of the final air stream.

In a condenser, humid air at atmospheric pressure, 35 degree celsius and 90% relative humidity enters the process at a rate of 2.12 m3/s. Liquid water exits as a condensate. If the air exits at 20 degree celsius, determine the molal humidity of outlet air, absolute humidities of inlet and outlet air and flow rate of condensate in L/s.

A production facility heats various equipment using a network of heated air and water vapor lines. A boiler produces a 195.0 mol/hr stream consisting of 0.590 mol fraction of water and 0.410 mol fraction of air at 131.0°C and 5200.0 mmHg. The air and water vapor cool as the gases move away from the boiler, and steam traps collect and remove condensed water from the lines while the pressure remains constant. a) If a total of 65.6 mol/hr of condensed...

A stream of hot dry nitrogen flows through a solvent recovery unit that contains liquid benzene. A substantial portion of the benzene vaporizes in the unit and is carried off by the nitrogen. The combined gases leave the unit at 150°C and 1.2 bar and enter a condenser in which a portion of the benzene is condensed. The remaining gas leaves the condenser at 20°C and 30 bar. The partial pressure of benzene in the feed to the condenser is...

1) A nozzle is a device for increasing the velocity of a steadily flowing stream of fluid. At the inlet to a certain nozzle the enthalpy of the fluid is 3025 kJ/kg and the velocity is 60 m/s. At the exit from the nozzle the enthalpy is 2790 kJ/kg. The nozzle is horizontal and there is negligible heat loss from it. (i) Find the velocity at the nozzle exit. (ii) If the inlet area is 0.1 m2 and specific volume...
