Give 3 application of thermal conductivity and explain in details nicely

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Thermal conductivity is the property of a material which helps to know ability of a material to conduct heat.

1)This plays major role in design of heat transfer equipments like condensers and evaporator coils in refrigeration industry.

2).A heat exchanger is used to cool process fluid by conduction.if conductivity of material is high cooling time will be low.

3).Metal quenching, instruments like Thermal Conductivity Analyzer,Gas sensor etc are other area where thermal conductivity plays an important role.

Determination of Thermal Conductivity. In determining the thermal conductivity of an insulating material, the temperatures were measured on both sides of a flat slab of 25 mm of the material and were 318.4 and 303.2 K. The heat flux was measured as 35.1 W/m^2. Calculate the thermal conductivity in btu/h*ft*Fahrenheit and in W/m*Kelvins
