If a diffusion coefficient of a protein is increased, what will happen to the location of the synaptic domain?

Answer #1

Polyphosphoinositol lipids plays a vital role in conveying all the spatial information by interacting with cellular protiens within a particular defined domain.

Altough the above interactions can be minimised when the head groups of lipids are basically masked by the recruitment of cytosolic effector proteins . The protein lipids complexes retain a very fast diffusional coefficient inside the membrane which is dominated by the interaction of protien-protien complexes.

So,If a diffusion coefficient of a protein is increased ,then interaction between protien-protien complexes also increases then automatically the signal transmission across chemical synapses increases.

In aqueous solution at 298 K and pH 7.4, the diffusion coefficient for hemoglobin (radius = 3.5 nm) is 7.6 x 10-^7 cm^2/sec, and the diffusion coefficient for O2 (radius = 0.2 nm) is 2.2 x 10^-5 cm^2/sec. The rate constant for the binding of O2 to hemoglobin is 4 x 10^7 M^-1 sec^-1. Is this a diffusion-controlled reaction?
