What three fluids are contained in reservoir rock? What is on top, middle, and on the bottom?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Reservoir rock contains three fluids which are water, hydrocarbons or oil and gas. The major driving forces that arrange these fluids are gravity, capillary, molecular diffusion, thermal convection and pressure gradient. As the gravity plays a major role in distribution of fluids water present at bottom because of high density. On top of water there will be hydrocarbons or oil. Above oil there will be gas.

Top - gas

Middle - hydrocarbons or oil

Bottom - water
