Question 2 (Excel)

A single stage RO desalination system has the following design data:
- Water permeability = 2.05xl0-6 m3/m2.s.kPa - Salt permeability = 2.03x10-5 m3/m2.s
- Feed salinity = 44.0 g/L
- Feed flow rate = 3.5 kg/s
- Permeate flow rate = 120 kg/min - Feed pressure = 7500 kPa
- Reject pressure = 63.0 atm
- Permeate pressure = 1.1 bar
Calculate permeate salinity, brine salinity, brine flow rate, and membrane area. Assume the deviation between the density of feed/brine and pure water can be neglected.

1. Rand water research committee consisting of 12 chemical engineers design a reverse-osmosis plant to recover 30 % of the seawater feed water as portable water. The permeate pressure used is five time less than the feed side pressure. The total spiral wound membrane surface area is 464000 m2 for a single stage crossflow. Calculate the salt passage and water permeance given the characteristic of the feed water, permeate and final brine as in table below. Flow rate Concentration Pressure...
