Why the SO2 concentration (see Wind rose) has the stronger correlation with the wind direction in winter time than those in summer and why hydrocarbon has no relation with wind direction and season.

Homework Answers

Answer #1

The solubility of SO2 in water affects the concentration of SO2 in the air.

As in the winter season the temperature is low and the moisture (Water) in the is more as compared to the dry summer day. Due to this the solubility of SO2 is air+water mixture is more in the winter humid days.

Let see the graph of solubility of SO2 in the water.

while the solubility of Hydrocarbon is very less ( almost insoluble) so it will not affected by the moisture and the temperature condition of the climate. Thats why season doesnot affect the concentration of hydrocarbon in the air.
