1) Calculating Number of Stages in Counter-Current Stripping with Tray Towers:
A counter current steam stripper has a liquid stream containing 0.02 mol % nitrobenzene in water. Entering steam is pure water. Outlet mole fraction of nitrobenzene in liquid is 0.00001. Assuming dilute species with constant liquid and gas flow rates. Equilibrium can be represented as Y = 28*X
(a) Calculate minimum vapor flow rate (V’min) to perform the operation, given L’ = 1000 kmol/hr.
(b) Given L’/V’ = 12; calculate the outlet mole fraction of nitrobenzene in the vapor stream and the number of stages using graphical methods / EXCEL / MATLAB / MATHCAD etc. Calculate and show the concentrations after each stage.
Minimum number of stages: 4
