Famous Amos makes some of the most delicious cookies money could ever buy. In one of its factories, workers shape cookie dough at a rate of 10 cookies per minute before sending the raw cookies to the oven department for baking (assume a conveyor belt is used to send the cookies to the oven department, so that raw cookies are sent to the oven department as soon as they are shaped). Regardless of how many cookies you put into the oven, it takes 10 minutes to bake one batch of cookies. The company is considering investing in new Teflon-coated baking trays, but it is not clear on the ideal tray size. Only one tray can be put in the oven at a time. Assuming that each cookie takes up a space of 25cm2, what should be the minimum surface area of the tray to ensure that the system remains stable
Here in this we are given following information :
Number of cookies shaped per minute = 10
Time required to bake a batch of cookies (regardless of quanitity) = 10 minutes
Space occupied by one cookie = 25cm2
Now to make the system stable the try size should be such that it should hold that many number of cookies as the the workers are able to shape in 10 minutes.
So number of cookies the workers are able to shape in 10 minutes = 10*10=100 cookies.
Now tray should be able to hold 100 cookies so effective area should be = 100*25= 2500 cm2.
