Employee counselling is a formal meeting/discussion between the superior and his employee about the employee's contsant complaint about a problem. The counselling is a two way discussion wherein healthy conversation is mae to understand's the employees view points or explainations and inturn give suggestions for improvement as per the organisation's expectations. This counselling session is a well documented and well recorded session for the superios and furute reference with respect to the employee.

Before holding the counselling session a supervisor should collate all the relevant data about that employee in this organisation. After thoughtful study of the information, the superior should prepare a list of parameters may be objective or easily quantifiable and may be subjective and weightable. Relevant facts may include:-(a) specific incidents of the problems appearing in the past with proper record of date, time, venue (b)Degree of gravity of the problem and frequency of repitition (c)effect on employees performance goals and colleagues, customer etc

During the course of counselling the manager should document the session in such a way that it represents the employees commitment towards improving his behaviour/performance in future. Well laid down future goals are to be set against company standards. Then appropriate action plans to be devised and best way to achieve should be documented. Also reveiw and further discussion dates should be confirmed in this session itself. The role of the superior does not end here. He should review the status of emplyees commitment and subsequently send his observations and inferences, scope for improvement to the HR department.
