If you had to choose, which part of the federal bureaucracy would you like to work for? Why? Write about the rules of recruitment of federal bureaucrats. Why and how did the U.S. government switch from the Patronage (Spoils) system to the Merit system? What do you think is the difference between a government bureaucrat and a politician?
The Federal Administration is in the Administrative Division the unchosen, bureaucratic body. It's the United States Regime pillar. It is organized into numerous commissions, agencies, and departments of government that perform thousands of duties. When I were to pick, I would like to be part of the Department of Education because I was a pupil of modern-day society and can bear witness to the need for change, as other social media teachers and students have already pointed out. Through working in the education sector, I 'd help shape the future of social security, employment and jobs, through partnering with leaders of government and business to create programs and services. In addition, by serving in the department of education, I will be able to influence my growth and learning with plenty of choices available, participate in government-wide and local community work and inspire other scholars to do so. Federal officials' recruiting policies rely on competence or credentials for the job, and not on party loyalty or patriotism. In a way, the applicants for government positions are identical to a normal employment, except that the qualifications are limited, and the conditions are determined by statute. Even the interview process is much more complicated and involving than it is with a normal career. The applicants for the posts do not qualify for those vacancies, but are then nominated, and picked by political nominees. Many that apply and work lower-end jobs end up in many situations making their way up to more active and higher ranking roles.
Shady political compromises, corruption, and backroom deals have been the spoil system 's political hallmarks. For that bribery and questionable deals, the US government moved from the spoil system to a merit scheme. The government also decided to encourage a method of hiring regime employees based on their abilities to perform a task, rather than on their political networks. The transition from waste to merit scheme became inevitable when dissatisfied office-seeker Charles Guiteau assassinated Head of States James Garfield in 1881 an event that allowed the restructuring of the civil service to attract popular acceptance. The passage of the Pendleton Civil Service Act also established the Commission for Civil Service to restrict and control patronage roles. The fundamental distinction between bureaucrats and lawmakers is that policymakers are concerned with results, and the bureaucrats are concerned about the process. Politicians are often chosen by voters while administrators need to succeed in an assessment that tests expertise aligned with the particular level of civil service they expect to occupy.
