which of the changes being considered by the manager of quality parts company are counter to the lean philosophy

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Lean philosophy is basically improving quality, efficiency and effectiveness to prevent any kind of wastage. Lead time should be as low as possible and the inventory should not be kept as the philosophy says produce at the right time, right location and in the right condition.

Quality parts company have considered the following changes : Automation of inventory order system. Keeping the skids filled, Adding external inspectors,Set up a network line, installation of shelving.

All these changes would mean company is accepting wastage of inventory, employees would have to work 2 days in advance, external inspectors would means workers are not being motivated to improve, high shelving means acceptance of high inventory, all these being the counter to the lean philosophy focuses on avoiding wastage, increase efficiency, avoid inventory, improvement of workers skills.
