Manual Handling:

Refers to the act of transporting, loading, picking up, pulling, pushing, carrying the heavy load by the workers using their own physical strength or bodily force.

Target group:

The target group would be the newly employed workers in the organization who are new to the working environment and manual handling.

The need for training:

  • In order to train the employees in regard to various kinds of work that are expected to be performed by them.
  • To make the workers expert in the specific work they will perform in future.
  • To avoid any kind of future incidences of accidents and injuries while working.
  • To help workers understand how to handle the items without getting hurt and complete the work quickly.

Level of training:

  • The training will be provided at three levels, the easy, the medium and the tough level.
  • Training will be provided at all levels to all the employees, irrespective of the work they will be performing in future.
  • The employees will be given higher level training step by step, before they clearly understand the previous level.
  • Manuals will be given to the workers, containing pictures, so that they can easily understand the training requirements.

Program content:

  • The training will help workers understand the types of materials they will be expected to deal with in the workplace.
  • The variety of materials that are available in the workplace.
  • The level of safety and care that need to be taken care of while handling the materials.
  • The harmful effects that the workers will face, if materials are not handled with care.
  • The first aid that can be provided by the fellow workers, to the injured, in case of injury.

Training delivery mode:

  • Workshops will be organized for the workers so that they can learn more in less time.
  • Trained members will be invited from outside, to make the workers understand what and how should be done.
  • Training will be provided to the workers using power point presentations.
  • Along with power point presentations, workers will also be shown what and how it need to be done, by illustrating examples.

Estimated time for training:

Training will be provided to the workers in the form of a workshop. A three day workshop will be organized for the workers. It will be for a period of 4 hours daily. This will help the workers in understanding their work in less time and in a cost effective manner, without hindering the work.

Relevant codes of practice, rules and regulations:

  • The manual handling operations regulations (MHOR) 1992 need to be followed.
  • The workers are not allowed to skip the workshop and attend it all three days.
  • The workers are required to sit all four hours and attend the workshop.

Source of information required to develop the program:

  • The list of number of workers that will be attending the workshop.
  • The number of manuals required to be printed for the workers.
  • The time slot required to be devoted for the workshop to be conducted.
  • The cost expected to be incurred for organizing the workshop and what can be given by the top management.

If training will be given internally/ externally:

  • Training will be provided only to the workers who are working with the organization.
  • Training will be give on the job and within the premises of the organization.
  • No workers from other organizations will be invited for the same.
  • It will be done in order to avoid incurring of extra costs for the workshop.

Cost estimate:

  • Budget will be prepared beforehand by the management keeping in mind all the expenses.
  • The budget will vary form organization to organization and their financial capacity to spend on the workshop.

Success evaluation:

  • Success will be evaluated by keeping a follow up by the employees.
  • The employees will be evaluated on the basis of the work they are performing.
  • The work done will be compared before the training and after receiving the training.
