***Public Procurement***

Homework Answers

Answer #1

First let us understand the meaning of green purchasing. Green buying means buying the product or services which are Environmentally Preferable. The green products have lesser adverse effects on human health. For an example LED lights, recycled products, herbal products etc are the green products examples.

Green products are cost effective. They are charge at higher price. For an example a 100 Watt build is so cheap than a LED bulb. 5 star rating appliances are most costly than the below rating appliances. Their effect on the environment is prices less. If we consider the environment then the green buying is a cost effective. If we take an example of bulb then the 100w bulb will consume the electricity of 11 LED bulbs (1 LED bulb which is 9 W.

The 5 star appliances are costlier but they save the electricity so after few years they become cost effective for a longer period of time.

If we talk about the eatables then suppose if someone is buying inorganic vegetables which are cheaper than the organic ones. And if the consumer gets sick then the medical bill increases the overall cost of the vegetables many times more.

The green purchasing also includes the recyclable product. Some money can be obtained by selling the recyclable products to the company for recycling.

Again the product which has lesser packaging material also comes under green buying. Less packaging reduces the packaging cost so the price is reduced.

So in the end I would say that from the above examples it is clear that Is it cost effective to buy “green”.
