Nationalism is a movement that is based on boundaries of nation to which a we belong. It is basically concerned with devotion and loyalty of individual towards their nation. This loyalty might surpass their own interest.

Influence of nationalism on the 20th century:

19th century is called the age of nationalism by many scholars but in 20th  century the movement has become more powerful than ever before, especially in Asia and Africa.

In 20th century nationalism took a three fold identification. The three major areas were political system, economic system and social system. The major concern was to develop these systems of a particular nation with the aim of gaining national sovereignty, and governance.

Nationalism influenced several factors that are connected with nations. Some of such elements are:

  • Language,
  • Education,
  • Politics,
  • Culture,
  • Civilization,
  • Community,
  • Religion

Nationalism, helped in the development of many countries.The idea of nationalism acted as a magical force, in the success of many countries. One of the concept that is connected with nationalism is that of imperialism.

Some of the major events that occurred in the 20th century that were affected by nationalism are as follows:

  • World wars I,
  • Economic depression,
  • Rise of dictatorship,
  • World war II,
  • The decolonization process,
  • Nationalist movement in Asia, Africa and Latin America,
  • Globalization,
  • Past-modernism,
  • IT revolution.

The above mentioned events have tremendous impact on the nation-state system.
