Homework Answers

Answer #1

Civil rights and civil liberties have been constituted to establish the basic rights of citizens in any federal government. Civil rights highlight the basic rights of an individual in a society. Civil liberty depicts the basic rights and freedom of individual that are guaranteed by a government. Civil rights are the positive initiatives taken by the government to provide sanctity to all citizens. Civil liberty on the other hand provides protection against any illegal government action.

When talking about which is more important – public safety or protection of civil rights and liberties, the following reasons stress the importance of public safety above all:

  • All civil rights and liberties are constituted to protect an individual. So his safety is paramount than any other civil right or liberty
  • The critically of saving a life is more important than saving the sanctity of any law or regulation
  • It is the public who form the society, which in turn elects the Government, which forms the constitution and the civil rights and liberties. If public safety and civil rights and liberties are at stake, it is the responsibility of Government to give paramount importance to public safety and security over anything else.
