Discribe the circumstance that lead up to King's nonviolent direct action approach in Birmingham.
King saw that the voices of blacks around the country and the world were being ignored. Because of this, he felt that non-violent, direct action was a necessity..... particularly in the state of Alabama where the courts had put out an order that forbid protests against demonstration. King did not advocate breaking the law, but he also saw that disobedience was the only way to bring segregation to the forefront.
King frames his arguments in his letter is by describing the society that has allowed the discrimination to continue in terms of its structure and cages. the entire premise of the letter arises out of the local clergy.
