A VPN firewall is a device that is designed specially to block unauthorized and malicious users/programs to enter into VPN in order to protect VPN connection.

It can be in the form of software, hardware or any firewall application that is used to pass only legalise traffic towards VPN server.

VPN firewall is installed at the front or at the end of the server. When it is placed at the front, it only allows authorise traffic to enter into VPN server where as if it is placed at the end of the server means it will allow only tunnel data which VPN allows to pass outside.
