Your team has been given the assignment to create the operating model for a new store division of an existing brand and retailer. While the target customer and product mix might be similar, your team will create and propose a new/updated Store Operating Model for this division to the class, who will act as Senior Management and Board of Directors.
The Store Operating Model will encompass all of the elements we have observed and covered in class this semester.
These elements include:
Store Management and Staffing - Desired Employee Characteristics
Staff Roles, Compensation and Training
Target Location, Store Layout and Design Features
Customer Programs
In store Technology
Customer Service levels
As a team, identify which elements (at least 3) that will make your concept different and unique from other existing stores, and particularly your competition. Your Operating Model should involve Critical Thinking/Innovation and Creativity.
Your plan should be a Power Point presentation (limited to 15 slides) that will also serve as your report for the project.
Plan your presentation to run 15-20 minutes. Following the presentation there will be an open debate with the “Board” on whether the team’s program will be successful or not, along with written feedback by the “Senior Management and Board of Directors”.
Your participation as a team in the presentation and discussion will be part of the team’s overall grade.
METHOD
In preparation for the team oral presentation and power point each team will:
1. Use your research skills and information/knowledge gained during the semester from class discussion, guest speakers and field trips to identify opportunities that will be the basis of your project.
2. Visit retail stores and websites
3. Support your program with visuals (power points, etc.)
4. Include all sources for research in a properly formatted bibliography.
EVALUATION AND GRADING OF FINAL PROJECT:

Store Management and Staffing – Desired Employee Characteristics:
The store management takes very crucial role in creating entire mapping and design of the new operating model. Store management should start with Physical design like Racking/Shelf, Flooring, Positioning of each target products, Layout/Aisle and Safety and Others like Changing room etc with applicable design – Architecture and signage to increase visibility to both within and outside the Retail store and Enterprise Resource Planning for system Tracking of the Items and for recording and Movement of any Item within and outside of Retail store,
Further to this above we can implement
Robotic Process automation – Implementation of Robot in Retail platform and exclusively in supply chain which can help both customer and Retail employees to do their job more efficiently and effectively, For Example – NAVii autonomous retail service robot could help customer for finding an item within the store, also it can help retailer to track and make up to date of the inventory
Virtual Assistant and Digital Assistant: Same like Siri and Alexa, we can utilize such assistant to make customer more interesting to come in the shop and buy something of their choice, Even it can help store employee for any assistance without taking another human interaction, For example, there is virtual assistant or Digital assistant like Google speak, Siri and assistant from apple, IBM, Amazon, Microsoft always among us to assist further.
Any Movement by Drone: Drone can move the item chosen by Customer to the place as needed by customer or retailer and shop person can take drone for movement of the item to the destination, For example – Amazon taking a role to prepare patient on it, working on it further for its advancement during late 2016 they took a successful delivery in U.K by drone
E- Commerce Antifraud Tools – EMV Chip card can be used to fight in store fraud issue, There are Payment Company like master card and stripes using AI – Artificial Intelligence and machine learning to detect any fraud happening in the system
Block Chain- Block Chain has become most imminent concern in Retail sector, Supply Chain industries and Ecosystem, to manage and track any complex digital transaction block chain will take a lead in such scenario
Staffing and Desire Employee characteristics would start with attitude of every employee and co-ordination , team work among them finally there should be periodic Employee engagement program which help them to know and gain further skill and competencies as needed for the retail management. Day to day work supervision with lean Work culture and there monitoring and follow up will take a good role to manage retail store and Supply chain Environment. Scalability of the environment and employee will give always better result in pursuing such Endeavour
Staff role, Compensation and training: Any Hiring should be based on Attitude and trained for the skill, Every Staff should have their own role and responsibility description, and team engagement should be in correct order so that all staff can take cross functional role,
Staff Compensation may take a role for taking care of staff and putting the hard work, at the same time Every staff need Responsibility / Ownership of the Work based on there capability and finally reward and award/achievement which can motivate them to keep the pace on the retail and supply chain field
Target Location, Store Layout and Design Features:
Target location should based on focusing the visibility to the either target customer or the customer could be anybody who is around, even far away from them, however digital marketing like social media marketing, Email marketing can make more visibility about the design and item availability/Ex- stock availability of the shop Item with price with discount,
Store Design layout should be more Creative like keep place for rack/Shelf, Aisle for Item Movements and System for managing the item at a height, Entire Layout start from Floor Layout, Wall and display layout, Ceiling Layout, lighting Layout, AC and Ventilation layout, MEP Layout, Firefighting Layout – design needs to be furnished correctly for physical introduction in the supply chain and retail store.
All design start from Architecture design like Signage Logo Design, dash board – Digital or manual , Lighting Presentation, Interiors fit out for making proper visibility in the shop and will attract customer to enter in.
Customer Program: Customer engage program which will help to generate traffic in the shop, people will feel enjoying for every shopping, Common Activity like Quiz, Singing, Dancing, DJ take a imminent role to make the shop busy every hour, people feel quite interesting to manage their purchasing behavior.
There are many MNC and leading Sector like Starbuck keep reward point for digital shopping with them which can give them further discount for future buying, Buy one Get one free is a common slogan which keep customer more energetic to buy the things
