Q11

What is power? What is influence? [2 Marks]

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Power is the ability to get desired outcomes done by others irrespective of how it is done. It has nothing to do with the motivation or desire of the doer. It is, therefore, entirely outcome-oriented.

Influence, on the contrary, is the ability to transform one's belief i.e. their knowledge and opinion about the existing situation or the desired situation. Using influence, the influencer can develop or transform the followers' point of view about good/ bad, right/ wrong, true/ false about some context. Influence is, therefore, behavior or intention-oriented.
