Pros, Cons, and usefulness of the Fiedler’s Contingency Theory?

Pros:

• Extremely well-researched theory, given the stated parameters.
• It looks at the broader environment.
• It is inherently more flexible than a "one takes all" theory.

Cons:

• The theory is leader-centric, where leader makes all of the diagnoses.
• The theory doesn’t consider a change.
• Questionable whether it can be valid in all situations, as the task is not well defined neither there is a choice of leaders is there to have.

Usefulness:

• It shows the level of trust and confidence a team has in its leader.
• It consolidates the leader’s position in terms of directing the group and provide reward/punishment.
