Your client has three factories in one area 7 miles apart. Once a week the two small factories have their respective maintenance departments transport by factory truck anyways they have generated to the main factory. The amounts generated by the two small factories is sometimes more than 100 kg generated by each factory and sometimes less than 100 kg. The main factory stores the waste for five months then has it hauled away and disposed of at a licensed treatment storage and disposal facility. Company headquarters asked you to review this procedure for conformance with applicable environmental statutes.

Storing the waste for 5 months will make the waste accumulated turn up into a large pile. Though it is being dumped at an authorised area, the pollution done to the environment remains the same. Hence the company must try to reduce the wastage by using eco friendly material so that the waste can be recycled. This reduces the transport cost from the two plants to the main plant, storage costs for these wastes and also protects the environment from being polluted.

Also according to many waste disposal programs, waste must be segregated before taking it to the dumpyard. Solid waste and hazardous waste must be segregated and hazardous waste must be dumped only in the prescribed area. Also proper permissions must be taken before dumping the waste even if it is authorised and licensed disposal facility.
