Answer #1

Answer: The following are some of the suggestions for reforming such programs

  1. Reducing the costs of the prescription drugs: The prescription drugs are a major contributor to the costs of such programs. Therefore the government needs to control the prices of such drugs and promote the use of off patent generic drugs in such programs.
  2. Reviewing the interest rates: The government also need to constantly review the insurance rates offered by the insurers for ascertaining the accountability of the insurers and for ensuring that they do not charge irrational charges.
  3. Taking out the higher age group from such program and offer them a different program. This will help in reducing the premium rates for the other age groups who have to share the burden of such age groups.

The Affordable Care Act, or Obama Care as it is sometimes called, had a difficult start partly because it requires everyone to be covered by insurance or they must pay a fine. Why are all required to join? If most people consider health insurance a good thing, why do so many resist buying a plan even when they can afford it? (Assume there are no technical problems involved and the resistance is a rational response.)
