Answer #1

Norming is a stage when the team begins to feel a sense of togetherness and wish to stand up for each other. Each individual in the team works to create a cohesive unit. The characteristics of this phase are - increased trust, increased performance (start of success) and mutual respect. Some of the examples and behaviours showed in the movie are:

  • Team overcomes issues that were arising out of belonging to the difference in race/color (United in differences)
  • Gary & Julian engage in a friendly chant during practice (sense of oneness)
  • Multiple scenes where the team is bonding in the locker room and everyone is in good spirit leaving behind the animosity for each other (team-bonding)
  • Gerry takes a step to get his friend (ray) dismissed from the team who still indulged in racism (standing up for the team)
  • Warm-up dance against the unbeaten team to build up team spirit
