Review and discuss the role of workforce unions on a global level.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to being in a union in various countries, i.e. Japan, Germany, US, etc.?

Advantages are:

• It helps to provide stable job to employees due to negotiation with management
• It ensures proper working condition, amenities etc.
• It helps to ascertain wages are comparative to other industries in the vicinity
• It provides platform to raise the voice and share any concern

Disadvantages are:

• It only allows few employees to table the voice for entire public and in case of different thought of some employees, it is ignored
• It hampers smooth relation between employer and employee as Union is considered as mediocre for all discussions
• It doesn't promote merit and mostly decision for promotions etc. are made basis seniority which is negative for hard working employees or top performers
