Impact assessment helps in understanding the effect a step will have on the process. In contingency planning impact assessment helps in understanding the effect the step we are taking to manage the risk might have on the whole project , Therefore it helps in handling the risk in an efficient manner. Therefore impact assessment helps in proper contingency planning. The process involves analysing the risk, studying the outcomes of the risk, plan to avoid or control the risk, alternatives available, effect of each alternative on the project, comparing the options, deciding the best plan , implementing the plan.
