3D printing is destined to change the world in ways that we cannot even understand and the social good (or bad) they can do is endless. Thirty-three-year-old Kodjo Afate Grikou wanted to help his community in West Africa to print necessities that they can't source locally, such as kitchen utensils for cooking. The structure of the 3D printer he had in mind uses very little in terms of new parts because it is mostly made up of e-waste and scrap metal. Before building this printer, he set up his project on the European social funding site, rule. The project received more than $10,000 despite the printer costing only $1,000, mostly through purchasing new parts that the couldn't find locally. Grikou hopes that his innovation will inspire teenagers and young people in his community to attend school and gain an education so they can make further life-changing developments that will benefit not only their lives but also others around them. Part I:
1). Brainstorm ways four ways in which 3D printing can help rural communities fight poverty.
Part II: In researching this innovation, list at least 3 ways(or uses) in which industries (business, people, hospitals, etc..) are using 3D printing. What is their goal of using this innovation? Have they been successful? *Cite your resources using MLA*
1. The different ways in which 3D printing can help rural communities fight poverty are as follows:
· 3D printing can help rural communities in getting cleaner drinking water. 3D printing will facilitate development of filters which will help in purifying water.
· 3D printing will help in development of weather stations which will facilitate the farming and agricultural interventions of the rural communities.
· The technology of 3D printing helps in development of sustainable homes in fast and cost effective manner
· Rural communities will get connected to other parts of the world with better transportation provided by 3D printing
2. The 3 ways and uses in which 3D printing is being used in real world are as follows:
· 3D printing is being used to bring revolution in the education sector. Learning of students has been facilitated, as they can turn concept into prototypes with the help of 3D printing. 3D printing has been integrated in the education sector with the view of enhancing the overall understanding level of students, all across the globe.
· As 3D printing facilitates prototyping, it is being actively used in the manufacturing sector. The primary goal in this sector is to enhance customer responsiveness. The customers can be shown prototypes of the project, thereby enhancing their overall acceptability.
· 3D printing has also been integrated in the medical world so as to develop prosthetic limbs and parts
