John Deere & Company founded over a century ago is amulti billion dollar company which manufacturers framing equipment and machinery. The case discusses performance of a long term supplier of John Deere named Complex Parts. Their service has been declining over the years resulting in low profitability to the business. The aim of John Deere is to be a world quality company, with robust supplier relationships by utilizing the Achieving Excellence Program (AEP).

Despite displaying weakness in areas of responsiveness, Complex Parts gets good scores on the scale of AEP. Hence, Deere faces a challenge. The company is in a dilemma - to choose a new supplier or change their standards in the Achieving Excellence program. The main problem with Complex Parts is their communication problem and insuffiecient planning with John Deere.
