While it might seem ideal to check every single product or service, a sample may be more practical for a number of reasons. Explain these reasons with appropriate examples
Let us first understand why do we check the product or in other terms why product inspection is important. Checking the product to see whether it's meeting with the compliance and set the standard of the firm or not. Making it more simple we can say we need to check the product to ensure that any quality defects in the product are being identified and resolved before reaching the final customer.
It's ideal to check every single product as it will help to establish the authenticity of every product but the question is it worth it? The company or firm is not producing a single product they are into production of tonnes of products is a different category. Every product of the same category undergoes the same process. Hence instead of checking a single product, it's better to test sample. For example, if a firm is engaged in production of firecrackers is it possible to test each firecracker to know it's authenticity, or if a firm is engaged in the production of bullet do we need to fire each bullet to test the product. So how will we do the testing? Here comes the role of sampling. It will help to divide the production into different groups or units then each sample can be tested easily. It is less time-consuming and also every sample when tested it can be said as the testing of the product being done as the samples are homogenous. Secondly, we do need human resources for such testing. If the firm size and production size both are small 100% testing is possible but if the size is big sample comes into effect as it's practically impossible. The cost of inspection along with the time can be minimized with sample testing. Big companies like Nike, Addidas produce a number of goods but rely on sample testing as it is not possible to invest so much resources or time on testing. It's always better to have a standardized production in order to reduce mistakes. Sampling is also flexible and helps to choose quality standards that are best for the industry. Since sampling is based on statistics and numbers it produces inspection that results that are relatively clear and is easy to conclude.
