Describe a potential issue in Benchmarking, when comparing different facilities, even if similar characteristics are present?

Homework Answers

Answer #1

Benchmarking is commonly used to find the gap between the industry leader and the particular firm or facility This is done so that the factors behind these gaps can be overcome and attempts are made to become at par the industry leader by following the similar performances or processes

The main issue in Benchmarking, when comparing different facilities, even if similar characteristics are present is that despite having the similar characteristics and traits, each facility will be operating in different micro and macro environment and thus the change in environmental factor will also change the manner in which the different facilities operate and therefore having the perfect benchmarking is not feasible
