Pros, Cons, and usefulness of the Leader Trait Approach?

The basic assumptions of trait theory allow us to understand the basic differences between leaders and nonleaders by utilizing the concepts of traits that are shared by the top leaders:

PROS

1. The process of categorization of individuals based on their traits become easier.

2. Traits allow us an easier understanding of what makes a leader good or great.

3. We can create an understanding of the required traits so individuals can learn from it.

CONS

1. Does not take into account the factors of change and experience that plays a big part in the assumption of the abilities/traits of a leader.

2. Is restrictive in its implication and criteria for becoming a great leader.

3. The belief that one cannot change their traits and become a great leader if they are not born with it is not always applicable.
