Analysis of competition involves three steps. The first step is to define the competition landscape and identification of direct / indirect and potential competitors. The second step is to gauze the competitors intent by trying to understand the assumptions held by the competitors and observations of behavioral trends displayed by the competitors. Finally, the last step would be understand the capabilities, strengths and weaknesses of the competitors.

Competition analysis is part of the second stage of strategic management i.e. Gather and analyse data. Competition analysis is one of the external analysis that is carried out during strategic management of a company
