Think back to Case Study #2: “Businesses Respond to the Movement for School Safety”.
Describe the “performance–expectations gap” found in the case. What were the stakeholders’ (community and school students) expectations, and how did they differ from businesses’ performance?
Answer-
The issue that the Coca-Cola Company was facing was the quality and availability of freshwater. The general public expectation is that “world’s largest beverage company'' should provide its customers with products free of contamination and that its production shouldn’t affect the communities around their plant. Unfortunately, Coca-Cola did not meet the stakeholder’s expectations. When a group of people from areas located in their bottling plants in India brought to the public’s attention that the company had depleted local groundwater supplies for their use affecting their drinking water and irrigated resources. It was also brought to the attention that Coca-Cola’s production was contaminated with “dangerous levels of pesticide residues” also stressed the alarming shortages of water in some areas.
